A tragic incident occurred yesterday at a street festival in Vancouver, where a man believed to be in his thirties drove an SUV into a crowd, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.

The Lapu Lapu Day festival, a celebration of Filipino culture, was underway when the incident took place. Authorities have confirmed that the man from Vancouver is in custody. Police are however investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working to contact families of the victims.

Acting Police Chief, Steve Rai mentioned that they were dealing with mass casualties and that there were still family members who needed to be contacted.

According to him, it would be ‘’unfair to families by putting out numbers that we aren’t even sure on yet’’.

Police Chief Rai also mentioned how the 30 year old suspect was known to police in certain circumstances although he did not elaborate further while taking questions from the media. When asked whether police are looking for anyone else, he said, ‘’One suspect, one vehicle,” is all they were looking for at the moment.

Prior to police arrival at the scene, the suspect was already taken into custody by people in the crowd.
