The ECOWAS Ministerial Mediation and Security Council (MSC) Session is currently underway at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja today, 9 December 2025. Council members are meeting to review the region’s political and security situation and outline strategic responses to emerging threats.

In his opening remarks, ECOWAS Commission President Dr Omar Alieu Touray called for urgent and decisive action to safeguard regional stability and protect the values that underpin the Community.
As ECOWAS marks its Golden Jubilee, he noted that the path forward for the next decades is becoming increasingly clear.

Dr Touray highlighted the need for deeper reflection on the state of democracy within the region and a reinforced commitment to collective security. He expressed concern over recent assessments, which point to rising risks, including recurrent military interventions, declining voter participation, expanding terrorist activities and intensifying global geopolitical pressures.
