Ministers of Security, Defence and Foreign Affairs who are members of the Accra Initiative are converging on Accra Monday, November 21, 2022, for the 2nd level Ministerial Meeting aimed at addressing the deterioration of Security in the Sahel Region.
This will be followed by the Summit of Heads of States and governments the next day.
These meetings will fashion out ways of designing a collective response to the Accra Initiative which aims to prevent spillover of terrorism from the Sahel and to address transnational organised crime and violent extremism in member countries’ border areas.
At a media briefing in Accra, Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, said at the end of the Summit there would be a critical need to strengthen security and intelligence towards fighting terrorism  within the region.
Reports indicate that the Sahel region has experienced a devastating surge in terrorist attacks against civilian and military targets.

Terrorist groups are present across borders and repeatedly target communities and national institutions through coordinated attacks, taking advantage of porous and extensive borders.
