The Daily Graphic commends COCOBOD for its directive to Licenced Buying Companies to use electronic scales for weighing cocoa beans across the country. This, the paper says is in the right direction. It is in this vein that the use of the electronic scales will, among many other benefits, help dispel suspicion among cocoa farmers that cocoa purchasing companies, particularly clerks, cheat them when weighing the beans. The Graphic joins the call by farmers for government to make the use of the electronic scales mandatory and affordable. The paper believes that mass sensitization and education on the weighing scales is appropriate and important for the success of the policy directive and entreats the Ghana Standards Authority to ensure that scales procured by the LBC’s are properly calibrated.
