The Daily Graphic supports a call by the CEO of the Tema Oil Refinery, TOR for a percentage of crude oil to be made available to it. This is to enable TOR process the crude oil into final products for domestic consumption. The paper believes this will lead to the reduction of imports and creation of jobs since it is obvious that Ghana’s economy does not reflect its status as an oil producer. The Graphic urges TOR to put together a proposal in this regard for government’s consideration. This would repose public confidence in the refinery and make it easier to garner their support for future decisions of such nature.

The Ghanaian Times condemns the destruction of the Department of Parks and Gardens, to pave the way for the construction of an office complex. The facility, situated in Cantonments which had more than 140 trees, 5,000 flowers and other ornamental plants on the 10-acre land has been brought down with building materials deposited on site, ready for the construction of a multi-purpose office complex. The paper says students and lovers of flowers and plants who visit the Department to learn about plants will be deprived of such facility. The paper raises concerns about the safety of areas that habour flora and fauna, and calls on the Ministry of Local Government to intervene to stop further destruction of green spaces to prevent the destruction of the environment.
