Daily Graphic welcomes newly inaugurated boards of the State-owned media organizations with expectations that these boards will provide the needed policy direction that will propel them to effectively discharge their duties. Over the past few days, the National Media Commission inaugurated new governing boards for the four-state media organizations; The Graphic Communications Group, Ghana News Agency, New Times Corporation and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. The paper calls on the boards not to be distracted by comments meant to stop them from implementing bold and pragmatic decisions that will have positive impact on their work, in this era of unguarded statements and personality attacks.

Ghanaian Times recommends stiffer sanctions for organizations who flout environmental laws and pollute the environment, as a way of protecting the environment from pollution. The paper points to an instance where a factory in the Tema Free Zones enclave was only asked to stop work by the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA despite the fact that the factory in question continued to emit dark smoke into the atmosphere. The Times is concerned that many of such factories operate in open disregard for the country’s laws and should be checked.

Daily Heritage proposes a law to charge drivers who cause accidents by overspeeding with manslaughter and other crimes that attract serious sentences without parole. This is because lately, the focus of commercial drivers especially appears to be solely on making money which makes them fond of overspeeding and making wrongful overtaking which according to the paper, is a major cause of road accidents in the country. The paper says even accidents that are caused by technicalities should be punished if they are found to have been ignored by drivers.
