The Daily Graphic says developing the plantain value chain can earn more money for the country. It says exporting plantain in its raw form is good, but the country can do far better. The paper notes that some countries come to Ghana to purchase plantain from farmers in Agogo in the Ashanti region which is fast becoming a plantain growing hub and are able to make good income. It is however saddened that the staple which is utilized as a complementary part, is not only still seasonal but also, due to its abundance when in season, it is sometimes virtually trodden upon in glut. The Graphic urges  government to support the council for scientific and industrial research and other allied research institutions to undertake studies into plantain and ways of utilizing the crop for human benefit to enhance its value chain.

The Ghanaian Times comments on gun violence saying it has no place in the country’s democracy. It notes that a recent survey by the National Commission on Small Arms and light weapons estimated that 2.3 million small arms are in the hands of civilians. It however calls on all to commit to this campaign dubbed bullets and ballots and use it as a platform to change the mindset of people that democracy is not a violent enterprise but an opportunity to be heard.
