$9 million grant scheme to support tourism industry

Government has launched a $9 million grant scheme to support the tourism industry.

The support is to aid businesses and individuals registered under the sector and are facing the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic get back on their feet.

The tourism industry has been one of the hardest hit during this COVID-19 period with a lot of persons losing their jobs with some businesses permanently closed.

This prompted the Government to launch the Grant Scheme for the Ghana Tourism Industry to help businesses in hardship.

Launching the programme in Accra, the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, said the Scheme is the first ever to support the industry and government is determined to make sure the sector is revived. He also emphasised that there will be proper monitoring and evaluation of funds.

The funds will be allocated to four categories including building a tourism and training centre to create more employment and revenue for the country.

A Representative of the Grant’s management, Daniel Ababio, giving detailed account on the application and selection process said key among them is the eligibility criteria where the applicant must be a Ghanaian and has registered the company under the Association of the tourism industry.
