The President, John Dramani Mahama, has announced a GH₵20 million government allocation to the film sector.
President Mahama made the announcement when addressing Members of Parliament during the 2026 edition of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2026.
According to him, the allocation of GH₵20 million is aimed at strengthening local film hubs such as Kumawood and Gallywood and harnessing the creative arts for economic growth.
Stressing the importance of the creative economy, President Mahama said the tourism and creative arts sectors, especially creatives leveraging new media, are projecting Ghana onto the global stage “more than any first-class traditional media outlet.
Our economy will not be built only by traditional sectors but also by human creativity, human creativity sectors that will absorb those people who will be displaced from the shop floor by the new AI technologies that are being rolled out,” he stated.
President Mahama also highlighted Ghana’s rising appeal as a tourist destination, attributing it to “our history, culture, our arts, our music, our fashion, and our food.”
