Ghanaian highlife and afrobeats artiste Gregory Bortey Promise Newman, popularly known as King Promise, has stressed the importance of unity and friendship between Ghana and Nigeria, despite the longstanding banter between the two countries.
He made the comments while refuting claims that he had been rude or disrespectful to Nigerians.
“We will always have the Ghana-Nigeria banter, but we remain family. Those are our people as well,” he said.
His remarks follow comments made on a radio show which suggested that he had been rude and insulting towards some Nigerian colleagues, claims he described as false.
“There has never been a time I have said anything against anybody. If you know me, you know my best friend is Nigerian,” he added.
Speaking on Hitz FM on Monday, December 15, 2025, the Paris hitmaker said the two countries should not allow friendly rivalry to turn into conflict. He highlighted his close relationship with Nigerian singer Mr Eazi, whom he described as his best friend.
King Promise has collaborated with Mr Eazi on several songs, including Baby, I’m Jealous, Call Waiting and Dabebi. He attributed the success of their collaborations to their long-standing friendship.
The artiste also revealed that much of his music is produced in Nigeria.
“I go to Nigeria a lot. I made my song Paris in Nigeria. I make music in Lagos, I make music in Accra, I make music everywhere,” he said.
