President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Creative Arts industry that his administration will allocate significant funding to the creative arts sector in the upcoming budget as part of efforts to address Ghana’s unemployment challenge.
Speaking at his maiden presidential media encounter on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Mahama said the creative industry generates jobs at a faster rate than many traditional sectors, making it a vital area for national investment.
“One of the important things we have noticed is that the creative industry creates jobs faster than the traditional sectors,” he said. “By the time the traditional economy creates one job, the creative sector, through digitalisation, knowledge, arts, and culture, creates about five jobs.”

The president explained that the government’s planned investments will target film, music, and the broader arts industry. He emphasized that empowering these areas would not only create employment but also project Ghana’s cultural identity.
“We need to put our money where our mouths are,” President Mahama said. “We are going to make some allocation for the creative arts, to support filmmakers, to support the music industry, and to support the arts. They represent who we are as a people.”
He reiterated that his government will back words with action, with budgetary allocations to the creative arts, the launch of a “Golden Age of Culture, Arts and Tourism” anchored by the Black Star Experience, and the renovation of regional Centres for Arts and Culture.
