The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, says elections and electoral activities are becoming expensive in the country.

She said for instance the cost of the 2016 elections per each voter was about $12, as compared to an estimated $9 per voter in Nigeria in 2015.

She said the country has to always rely on development partners to fund elections, thereby compromising its independence.

Speaking at the 17th International Electoral Affairs Symposium in Accra, Mrs. Mensa said the trend is worrying, therefore there is need to help reduce the cost and build a greater trust in elections.
