Remember when the news broke in May, 2021 that five Police Officers were in custody for allegedly extorting a sum amounting to GH¢ 40,000 from two separate individuals on grounds that they were Cyber Fraudsters in a spate of one night?

The case was immediately assigned to an investigator. From 24th of May,2021 when the case was reported, investigations uncovered the said five officers and on the 27th, of May they were hauled before the Accra Circuit Court. Interestingly, they offered the Investigator GH¢ 2,500 so he could shelf the case. Unfortunately for them, the Investigator slapped them with another charge of attempting to bribe a Public Officer. Prosecution is still working on the case.

That aside, in September 2018, some “big” men were alleged to have stolen money to a tune of GH¢ 20,000. To avoid public humiliation, they offered the Investigator GH¢ 3,000 to put the case to bed. The Investigator rejected the offer and warned of dire consequences. These “big” men misinterpreted the warning and went on to up their game to GH¢ 4,000. They ended up with an additional charge of attempting to give bribe to influence a Public Officer [Section 252 Subsection 2, Criminal Offenses Act 29/30 1960]

The Investigator in the middle of all these is Police Lance Corporal Confidence Fiagadzi of the Kaneshie District Police Station CID.

Integrity Personality of the Year Award

In the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII)’s, 2021 Intergrity Awards, Police Lance Corporal Confidence Fiagadzi of the Kaneshie District Police Station CID, was nominated alongside four other heavyweights  associated with serving with integrity.

The others are GJA Journalist of the year 2019, Samson Lardy Ayenini, Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah, MP and Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP. Investigative Journalist Mannasseh Azure Aweni was a Co-recipient of the Integrity Personality of the Year Award.

Lance Corporal Confidence Fiagadzi says interesting, this is coming at a time when the Ghana Police Service is winning back the hearts of its masters (citizens).

At an Award Ceremony attended by Friends, Family and Anti- Corruption advocates, the Police Officer was visibly elated. He spoke of some concerns when he got nominated, but considered the scenario trivial.

”This is far, by grace and what I want to tell my colleague Police Officers is that hard work pays. In our own small way, we can deliver and do well without any eye watching us and out of that we shall be rewarded accordingly. This award given to me is an additional responsibility and in fact after receiving it I am not supposed to go and sleep but I must explore and do better”, the Police Office noted.

He expressed gratitude to his family, Superiors and Church Community for the support and dedicated the Award to God as well as the Inspector General of Police, IGP Dr. Akuffo Dampare, whom he described as his role model.

”To the IGP, I am most grateful for the opportunity, Infact, I look up to him each day, Dr. Akuffo Dampare, and I want to be like him one day”, Lance Corporal Confidence Fiagadzi said with a lot of conviction.
