Ammonium Nitrate: the explosive linked to the Beirut blast

News went viral over a huge explosion near the docks of the Lebanese capital Beirut, claiming more than one hundred lives. It was reported about 2,700 tonnes of a substance, Ammonium Nitrate, stored in a warehouse at the harbour for more than six years was responsible for that huge blast. Ammonium Nitrate is a chemical compound, that to many belongs to Chemical Laboratories. What then is this compound – Ammonium Nitrate?
