Food lovers in Tamale have exciting news as Swiss Garden Bar and Restaurant officially opened its doors this festive season. Located in the heart of Tamale (formerly Chucks Restaurant), this new eatery offers a diverse range of culinary delights, from traditional Ghanaian dishes to Swiss, Indian, and Chinese cuisine. Guests can expect a unique experience featuring locally sourced ingredients, signature dishes, cocktails, wood-fired pizzas, vegan options, and Ruks Special.
With a menu curated by a chef flown in from India, the restaurant promises to bring an exciting twist to the local dining scene. At Swiss Garden Bar and Restaurant, diners can indulge in a carefully crafted menu, which includes Ruks Special, Tandoori, special and local drinks, and a variety of other unique offerings.
The interior is designed with local artifacts both inside and outside, blending modern elegance with a cozy ambiance, making it the perfect setting for an unforgettable dining experience.
In an interview with GBCNews in Tamale, Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Garden Bar and Restaurant, Rukaya Giger, said, the restaurant aims for each dish to tell a story, from the sourcing of ingredients to the final presentation.
The CEO said, the restaurant’s goal of creating a dining experience that blends tradition with innovation, celebrating local ingredients and bold flavors.
“We are going to offer an all-you-can-eat option,” Mrs. Giger explained.
Background
Having lived outside the country (in Switzerland) for 30 years, Mrs. Giger returned to her roots with a mission to create employment opportunities and contribute to the local economy. “I’ve been outside the country for 30 years, and each time I go back, I come back,” Mrs. Giger said. “I try to create employment for my people. I started with Ruks Hotel, with 10 rooms working slowly from Europe, now Ruks Hotel has 50 rooms.”
Mrs. Giger’s facility promises a unique blend of international cuisine, warm hospitality, and a commitment to local sourcing. The restaurant’s spacious dining area and bar provide a serene atmosphere perfect for families, couples, or solo diners.
“This hall is a place where you just pay an entry fee and can eat as much as you want. It’s affordable, and you can try different cuisines Indian, Chinese, and especially my Ghanaian food. We plan to offer it all,” she remarked.
When asked how Swiss Garden Bar and Restaurant will contribute to the local economy, Mrs. Giger responded that restaurants are vital to any local economy.
She emphasized her commitment to creating employment and supporting local farmers and suppliers.
“At Ruks and Swiss Garden, we strive to make things locally. Even our outdoor chairs are made right here in Tamale. We prioritize knowing the source of our ingredients, such as our organic eggs and locally sourced chickens from Tamale,” she stated.
“Our aim is to empower the youth, particularly women, and create employment opportunities through her venture, she said.
We are planning to introduce live bands occasionally to create a vibrant atmosphere for patrons”, she stressed.

Executive Director of Destiny Sisters, a community-based NGO in Tamale, Ms. Munira Neena Adam, said, Swiss Garden Bar and Restaurant is distinctive because of its friendly management.
“They are down-to-earth, and you feel as if you’re in your own home,” she said.
Ms. Adam also emphasized the restaurant’s commitment to customer care, noting that the staff receives training to ensure excellent service.
“They undergo training regularly from professionals, sometimes from Holiday Inn in Accra, to enhance the skills of our waitstaff. Customer care is key, and we sometimes invite the Ghana Tourism Authority for additional training,” she added.

Mrs. Giger invites the people of Tamale to experience Swiss Garden with “nothing but the best” and “new things to come.”
With its unique blend of local and international flavors, Swiss Garden is set to become a culinary hotspot in Tamale, she said.
