Accra: 52-year-old man jailed 6 months for slashing ex lover’s boyfriend

A 52 year old man has been sentenced to six months in prison wirh hard labour by the Circuit court in Accra for attacking his ex-lover’s current boyfriend eho is a carpenter with a machet.. The court presided over by Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah has also fined the convict Kojo Senagbe 600 penalty units equivalent to Seven Thousand, Two Hundred Cedis (GHC 7,200). Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six-month prison sentence.

He has further been asked to compensate the complainant and victim Oliver Zinto with Five Thousand cedis (GHC 5,000).

Complainant Oliver Zinto is a Carpenter whilst accused Kojo Senagbe is a Steel bender. Both complainant and accused reside within the same vicinity at Community 14 Annex, Lashibi.

On May 10, at about 10:30pm, Zinto, was walking home when, the 52-year old jilted lover, Senagbe, from nowhere crossed him on the pathway and ordered him to stop. Oliver Zinto, who according to the facts suspected the convict was up to no good, refused to stop and continued walking. Senagbe attacked the complainant with a machete, slashing him on his scalp. the left ear, arm and the back.

Prosecution said Zinto, realizing that his life was in danger, mastered courage and overpowered, Senagbe and wrestled the machete from him. According to prosecution, Zinto lost a lot of blood by the time rescue came and was given first aid. Kojo Senagbe, is said to have bolted after realizing people had rushed to the scene of the attack.

A report was made to the Police at Klagon, who, later on May 15, arrested Kojo Senagbe. According to the prosecution, he admitted to the offence in his investigation and caution statement, but explained he attacked Oliver Zinto for snatching his girlfriend.

During investigations, the machete was also retrieved, following which Kojo Senagbe, was arraigned before court.
