Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed suggestions of division within the party following its presidential primaries, insisting the NPP remains firmly united and focused on the 2026 general elections.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Sunday Breakfast, Aboagye said the NPP has a long-standing internal culture that prioritizes unity once internal contests are concluded, stressing that the party has already moved beyond competition.

“There is an existing mantra in the party unless you’re not part of our party, that after competition is cooperation,” he said.

The NPP held its presidential primaries on Friday, January 31, 2026, where Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious after a keenly contested race involving four other contenders. According to Aboagye, the message from the leadership and aspirants alike has been clear: the contest is over and unity must prevail.

“Yesterday, you heard from Dr. Mahamudu’s speech, and you also heard from all the other four contenders. The elections are over. The campaigning period is over. We no longer have competitions, we no longer have factions,” he stated.

Acknowledging that some supporters may still be adjusting in the immediate aftermath of the polls, Aboagye urged patience, describing the post-primary phase as a natural transition period.

He emphasized that the party’s full attention is now on building a strong national campaign against its main political rival, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“One NPP, one political party focus on it and execute a formidable campaign against the National Democratic Congress. Trust this NPP to come together,” Aboagye added.

Describing the NPP as a party driven by ideas rather than personalities, he noted that intense internal contests are part of a healthy democratic culture, but never at the expense of party cohesion.

“We are a party of ideas. Sometimes you may see us compete fiercely, but once the competition is over, democracy wins. Democracy says this is where the majority are, and everybody rallies around the leader and moves on,” he said.

Aboagye further assured that any lingering disagreements would be resolved swiftly through internal engagement.

“We are going to do whatever we have to do to make sure that the few outliers that may come up are brought on board. Give us one to three months you would not even notice that a few months ago we were throwing jabs at each other,” he said.
