Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) across the country have embarked on a two-hour sit-down strike today.

According to a circular issued by the Junior and Senior Staff Union, the decision is in line with a protest against the current Managing Director of the Company, Kwame Agyeman-Budu.

A few weeks ago, the joint Unions demanded the removal of Mr. Agyeman-Budu on grounds of unhealthy administrative and corporate governance practices. They claimed the Managing Director has been incompetent when it comes to revenue mobilization and he also breached some procurement procedures.

The Junior and Senior Staff Union also mentioned six substations contracts where the recommendations of the evaluation committee were ignored and the contracts awarded to other companies.

Sources at the company have indicated that though the leadership of the Unions is calling for the removal of the Managing Director some workers have also commended him for some reforms and interventions which have improved service delivery.
