The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly has deployed an earth-moving machine to demolish the warehouse operated by Chinese nationals at Lartebiokorshie, a suburb of Accra, which was gutted by fire on Tuesday, September 9.

When the news team visited the scene, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were still working to fully extinguish remaining pockets of fire. The blaze reportedly broke out around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday and quickly spread through the facility.

At the time of the news team’s visit, demolition of the affected building was in progress. The exercise was carried out alongside cooling operations to douse remaining hotspots and prevent the fire from reigniting.

Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, said the team expects to complete its work by the end of the day.

The fire also damaged an electricity pole, cutting off power supply to residents for three days. Officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana have since replaced the destroyed pole.

Meanwhile, some residents were seen salvaging what they could from the debris. Police and NADMO officials remained on standby to ensure public safety.

The Ghana National Fire Service says investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the outbreak.
