The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, recently welcomed a delegation from BIDEC Inc and its partners, who are spearheading the “World Cup Cheer Train” project.
This innovative initiative aims to establish Ghana as the premier destination for engaging the African diaspora during the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. The plan reflects a bold fusion of tourism, sports, culture and community centered on Ghana’s rich identity.
Kofi Adams expressed his inspiration at the project’s vision, noting how it aligns closely with Ghana’s broader national goals. The initiative includes planned activations during the Black History Festival in Atlanta, alongside continent-wide engagements that highlight Ghana’s role as a leader in Africa.
The Minister emphasized that these opportunities to position Ghana on the world stage hold immense potential for growth and increased visibility. In response to the delegation, the Ministry pledged full support for the project while underscoring the necessity of thorough due diligence.
Kofi Adams highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders and prioritized safety measures as foundational to the successful rollout of the “World Cup Cheer Train.” A working team will be established to oversee and guide the initiative’s development and implementation.
The initiative signifies Ghana’s expanding influence in global sports diplomacy and its increasingly vital relationship with the diaspora community. Kofi Adams affirmed his commitment to advancing efforts that place Ghana at the center of these global conversations, reinforcing the country’s image as a cultural and sports hub during the World Cup and beyond.
