Electricity supply to the Obuasi enclave in the Ashanti region has been fully restored, nearly two months after the substation exploded and plunged the area into total darkness.
This follows a collaborative effort of GRIDCo, ECG and AngloGold Ashanti, AGA with the power restoration completing with subsequent supply to all customers last Saturday July 5, 2025.
A Statement issued by the Corporate Affairs Department of GRIDCo noted however, that work is ongoing to install a replacement transformer in place of the burnt one.
The Statement said the replacement transformer will be of higher capacity to enable a improved security of supply.
It said technical teams from GRIDCo, ECG, and AGA engineers will continue to closely monitor the power supply situation in order to avert a recurrence of May 23, 2025 disruption to power supply.
The statement expressed the gratitude of GRIDCo to residents of Obuasi and its surrounding communities for their patience during the period of power rationing.
