The Western Regional Office of the Ghana Water Company Limited is set to embark on a mass disconnection of consumers indebted to the company in the Western Region.

The Western and Central Regional Communications Manager of the Company, Nana Yaw Barima Barne explained to GBC’s Radio Ghana News in Sekondi that the free water supply as directed by President Akufo-Addo in April last year has ended.

The GWCL supplied free water to Ghanaians as a social intervention scheme to aid the stress of COVID-19 and ensure constant water supply in controlling the spread of the diseases, which has hand washing as one key control measure.

According to Nana Barne, the GWCL supplied free water and as well gave consumers some holidays but some have not settled their bills for months, adding that, it has become necessary to embark on a massive revenue mobilization drive to recoup most of their investments.

He said the Company, is not a subverted institution and as such, funds most of their daily operations from their internally generated fund.

Mr. Barne said the Company is in talks with consumers to as a matter of urgency pay all arrears to enable the company to continue to provide potable water to its numerous clients.
