Some delegates while preparing to vote in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries today, January 31, are receiving monies as transportation allowance from the various camps, some receiving 200 cedis.
Ablekuma South Constituency Secretary, Gideon Nii Ampim Sackey, has defended the move, stating that candidates are simply supporting delegates with transportation costs.
Speaking during the election at the constituency, he said, “It’s normal for candidates to want delegates who will vote for them to commute easily. It’s not a big issue”.
He however mentioned that anyone who refuses to vote with the excuse that they have not received transportation is not a true party member.
The NPP Presidential Primary is currently ongoing with candidate, Kennedy Agyapong having already casted his vote at Assin Central Constituency. The process has been peaceful. Remaining candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Ing. Kwabena Agyapong will cast their votes as well.
