The Akorwu-Bana CHPS Compound, which was abandoned since 2016, has finally been completed, commissioned, and handed over to the community and the Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Directorate for use.
The Akorwu-Bana CHPS Compound was part of four CHPS Compounds and one Nurses Quarters commissioned by the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, Francis Addo Akumatey, with support from the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, and MP for Yilo Krobo, Dr. Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, to ensure quality healthcare delivery in deprived communities in the Municipality.

During the commissioning of the project, he commended the GBC correspondent, Michael Kofi Kenetey, for his persistent advocacy towards the completion and commissioning of the project.
The project, which was commenced under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, was left to the mercy of the weather. The facility was left with electricity, septic tank, washroom, and logistics for staff to commence its operation.

The abandoned facility created inconvenience for the people of the community and its environs. GBC News Correspondent, Michael Kofi Kenetey, a native of the community, reported severally on the issue with regular follow-ups to the previous Municipal Chief Executives and the Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, but all efforts proved futile.
When the new MCE, Francis Addo Akumatey, assumed office in May 2025, the GBC correspondent made the effort to reach out to him concerning the project, and the MCE assured that the project will be completed and commissioned. With constant follow-ups, the project has been completed, commissioned, and handed over to the community and Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Directorate for use.

During the commissioning, the MCE lauded the effort of the correspondent for his advocacy towards the completion and commissioning of the project. Mr. Addo Akumatey emphasized that the commissioning of the facility shows the government’s commitment to providing constituents with high-quality and efficient healthcare delivery.
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Director, Irina Ofei, noted that the establishment of the CHPS compound serve as a critical intervention providing quality healthcare delivery and saving lives in the deprived communities. She mentioned that the facility will provide antenatal care, postnatal care, family planning, disease prevention, and health education.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey assured the community that she will work with the MCE for Yilo Krobo to help rehabilitate the road leading to the community to help promote economic activities in the area.
Mrs. Awatey commended the MCE for judiciously using the 10 percent of the District Assemblies Common Fund allocated to improve health infrastructure in the municipality. The other CHPS compounds commissioned to ensure quality healthcare delivery in various communities include Aketebuor CHPS Compound, Aboa Osuborninya, and Aboabo CHPS Compound.
