The PRO of the Association of Members of Parliament Chaffeurs of Ghana, Samed Awaki has called for formal Terms of Engagement for chaffeurs of MPs to improve their conditions of service.
The drivers, in a petition to the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, asked him to intervene to help improve their conditions of service.
Mr. Awaki noted that since there is no collective Bargaining Agreement between employers and employees, MPs chauffeurs do not have fixed salaries and their Social Security and National Insurance Trust Contributions are not paid.
The drivers said their remunerations are subject to, and enshrined in the Labor Act, 2003, Act 651 section 67, and, thus, pleaded for an increase in their salaries “which we believe can help us survive in the economy.”
