National security officer imposter arraigned before court for defrauding by false pretense

A driver, Forson Awuah, who posed as a National Security Officer, has been arraigned in court for defrauding 64 people in the sum of GHC340,000.

The accused person, who was arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court, has been slapped with 17 counts of charges of defrauding by false pretense.

He pleaded not guilty to all the counts and was admitted to a bail sum of five hundred thousand Cedis with two sureties who must be public servants earning a monthly salary of not less than GHC2000.

In addition to the bail conditions, the accused person is to deposit his passport with the court and report to the Police every Thursday.

Presenting the facts of the case, Inspector Richard Amoah, who is the Prosecutor, said the accused person, Forson Awuah is a driver and resident of Kpone in the Greater Accra Region.

According to him, between September last year and February this year, the accused person and two others at large introduced themselves to the complainant as National Security Operatives and therefore could assist in enlisting them into the Ghana Immigration Service through protocol means.

Chief Inspector Amoah said, the accused person and the two others collected the said monies from 64 victims.

He said, on February 28, Forson Awuah was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

The accused person is to reappear on the third of next month, for Case Management Conference.
