The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across Ghana, including three belonging to Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited, over breaches of broadcasting regulations.

According to the NCA, the action follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama to defaulting stations to address violations of laws governing FM radio broadcasting. While some broadcasters took steps to comply, others failed to act.

Three stations under Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited operating on frequencies 95.9 FM in Accra, 101.3 FM in Kumasi, and 101.3 FM in Takoradi  were shut down for operating without a Certificate of Compliance. The NCA cited unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations as key infractions.

Six other stations were also taken off air for “failing, refusing, and neglecting” to comply with the regulatory amnesty. They include:

1. Donplus Multimedia Limited – 105.9 FM (Ho)

2. Dreams Ghana Media Limited – 104.9 FM (New Abirem)

3. Jam Multimedia Limited – 101.3 FM (Kintampo)

4. Jewel Group Limited – 102.7 FM (Duayaw Nkwanta)

5. Kpandai Star Community Radio – 107.3 FM (Kpandai)

6. Unique Gateway Communication Limited – 105.7 FM (Nkawkaw)

The NCA says it will continue to monitor the broadcasting space to ensure stations comply with authorisation requirements and Ghana’s broadcasting laws
