The Management and Board of the Kumasi City Markets Limited, have announced rental rates prospective shop owners at the newly built Kejetia Market Complex are required to pay to secure a shop.

Traders are to pay a minimum of seven thousand 800 Ghana Cedis and a maximum of 48 thousand Ghana Cedis for the allocation of specific spaces for a period of five years.

However, the fate of tenant traders at the new market has not been determined yet upon the expiry of the five year tenancy period.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Godwin Okumah Nyame, who made this known to GBC’s Radio Ghana in Kumasi, however stated that flexible payment plans have been made for the traders to conveniently offset the cost.

The PRO of the Assembly could however not tell exactly when the Kejetia Market will be opened for business. He said priority will be given to shop owners at the previous Kejetia terminal.

He said traders at the Central Market will be relocated to pave the way for work to start on phase two of the Central Market redevelopment project.
