A meeting between the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) and the government has yielded positive results, with both parties making significant progress in resolving the ongoing strike. The meeting, facilitated by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, brought together a government team represented by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), as well as representatives from GRNMA.

Following constructive discussions, the parties agreed to meet again in two weeks to discuss the implementation of the 2024 Collective Agreement.

During the meeting, the government team appealed to GRNMA to call off the strike and return to the negotiation table, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue to resolve the impasse.

The GRNMA has been on strike since June 4, 2025, over delays in implementing their 2024 Conditions of Service, which were agreed upon on May 20, 2024. Despite the National Labor Commission declaring the strike illegal, the Association has insisted on continuing the strike until their demands are met.

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health acknowledged GRNMA’s concerns and indicated its commitment to facilitating negotiations and working towards addressing the concerns of the aggrieved nurses and midwives.

The government has indicated that it faces challenges in implementing the conditions of service due to budget limitations. However, both parties remain committed to finding a solution that benefits all stakeholders.
