Our mother received several death threats – Children of lynched 90-year-old woman disclose

The 90-year-old Madam Akua Denteh was lynched on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality.

The children of the ninety-year-old woman who died after being accused of witchcraft have revealed that their mother received several threats prior to the events of July 23rd that led to her death.
According to the children, they reported the threats to the chief of Kafaba on July 21st and had the assurance that their mother was not in danger.
Despite the assurance from the chief, the ninety-year-old woman was dragged out of her house on July 23rd and flogged in public.
She later died at home after complaining of pains in her chest, ribs and waist.

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison visited the family of the deceased.
The children disclosed this when the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison visited the family at Salaga to commiserate with them and to gather more information on the incident.
The Minister condemned the incident and assured the family that, government is committed to ensuring that, the perpetrators of the crime will be punished.
