Poultry farmers in Oti Region appeal for grains from National Buffer Stock

Poultry Farmers in the Oti Region have appealed to government to supply them grains from the buffer stock to save their businesses from collapse due to a shortage of animal feed on the market.

They are worried about the increase in prices of animal feed as a result of the high demand which is threatening their source of livelihood. They called for the government’s immediate intervention, especially after experiencing the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The poultry industry in the country has been facing numerous challenges including, high cost of poultry feed and formulae.

This has had severe consequences on Poultry farmers in the Oti region and has threatened the livelihood of many who depend on it for survival.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, a poultry farmer at Akpafu Odomi, Okra Disey, lamented the shortage of feed for the birds, indicating that the situation has taken a toll on the industry.

Mr Disey said the situation can temporarily be salvaged if government releases grains from the buffer stock at an affordable rate for farmers in the animal rearing sector to keep them in business.
