A Krobo Youth Advocacy Group in the Krobo enclave, Kloma Hengme Association, and their sister Association, Kloma Gbi have suspended their intended plan to embark on a peaceful protest to demand immediate action on the deplorable nature of the Somanya-Odumase-Kpong Highway.
The peaceful protest scheduled to have been held today, Thursday, July 24th, 2025, has been suspended until further notice through the intervention of the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey.

This was after a closed-door meeting between the Eastern Regional Minister, the two associations, security agencies, and the Municipal Chief Executives of the Yilo Krobo and Lower Manya Krobo Municipalities was held to build a consensus on how to get the contractor back to site latest by the first week in October 2025.
The Associations agreed to suspend the protest after the assurance from the Regional Minister with the interim measures of watering the road twice every week to reduce the dust on the road. Addressing the media after the meeting, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Awatey admitted the concerns of the associations, especially Kloma Hengme and residents of the two municipalities, about the deplorable nature of the road and said measures are underway to address the issue.
She assured that there will be constant meetings with the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, to ensure that the road gets fixed on time.

The General Secretary of Kloma Hengme Association, Dr. Eric Tamatey Lawer reiterated that the protest has not been cancelled but rather suspended pending the assurance from the regional minister.
He emphasized that after first week in October and there is no activity on the road, the associations will hit the street and with that the security will be their witness that they kept their side of the agreement.
