Teenage pregnancy is on the increase in the Ashanti Region.

According to statistics, 17,000 cases were recorded in the region last year.

An Administrator at the Trinity Hospital in Kumasi, Regina Boakye in an interview with GBC’s Thomas Nsowah Adjei said the trend is disturbing since the rippling effect of the issue has an overall burden on the economy and on parents of the affected girls.

Madam Boakye was particularly worried about the loss of lives that are sometimes associated with pregnancy and also school dropout.
