Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two young men for having guns without permission. The arrests were made early Wednesday morning, July 9 during a special police operation based on a tip-off.
The two suspects, 21-year-old Acheampong Kwadwo and 24-year-old James Antwi Adjei, were picked up from places known for criminal activity in Nweneso, Trabuom and Nkwawie in the Atwima Districts.

According to a statement from the police, the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit carried out the operation after receiving reliable information. During the search, they found two pump-action guns. One of the guns had a serial number (ASAO 2164 2021), while the other had no number on it.
Initial investigations show that the guns might have been stolen and could have been used for robbery activities in parts of Atwima and the Greater Kumasi area.
The suspects are now in police custody and are helping with investigations. The seized guns have been taken in as evidence.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, who speaks for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, confirmed the arrests and said more information will be given as the case continues.
Police say they will continue working hard to stop armed robbery and the illegal use of guns in the region.
