Volta Regional Minister donates laptop to GBC Volta Star radio; pledges support for media development

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, has reaffirmed his commitment to media development in the region with a donation of a brand-new laptop to the GBC Volta Star Radio in Ho during a working visit on Monday.

The gesture forms part of a broader effort to support key media institutions in the region, including the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Volta Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the Daily Graphic, and the Information Services Department.

Mr. Gunu emphasized the pivotal role of the media in driving the region’s development agenda and marketing the region as a premier tourism and investment destination.

Speaking during the brief ceremony at the station’s premises, Mr. Gunu said “We cannot develop the region without the media. You are our partners in progress. Volta is becoming the top investment and tourism destination in Ghana, and we need to work together to tell our story.”

He acknowledged the challenges faced by media outlets in the region and promised to address them incrementally. The Minister, who has a background in broadcasting, noted that his connection to the media is personal and enduring. “I started with GBC as a radio presenter. I haven’t forgotten my roots,” he said.

On behalf of President John Mahama, Mr. Gunu praised the staff for their dedication, particularly in leveraging technology to expand their reach.

Welcoming the Minister, the Volta Regional Director of GBC. Mr. Franklyn Agbenyo, commended Mr. Gunu for his vision and pledged the station’s commitment to supporting the development of the region.

“We are ready to partner with you in every way possible to drive development. We are now international through our daily livestreaming from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. across online platforms,” he stated.

He further called on the Minister to continue supporting the station’s operations, indicating their readiness to collaborate for mutual growth.

The donation of the laptop is expected to enhance the station’s digital workflow and support its increasing online broadcasting activities.
