9 persons, including a 6-month old baby dead in collision on Apedwa section of Accra-Kumasi Highway

A fatal crash at the Apedwa section of the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region, has left 9 persons dead, including a 6-month-old baby. The accident occurred last night when a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GT 7394-14 from Nkawkaw towards Accra did an overtaking without observing traffic from the opposite direction.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, said the Benz bus in the process clashed with a Burkina Faso bound DAF trailer truck with registration number, 2459T 03, resulting in the death of the nine persons.

DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said the bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital mortuary for identification and autopsy.

The injured were also rushed to the Suhum and Kyebi Government Hospitals with some in critical conditions for treatment.
