The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of two candidates set to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Upper West Region.
The victims, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, were final-year students of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School. They reportedly lost their lives in a road traffic accident on Sunday, May 3, 2026, while travelling to Wa to join their colleagues ahead of the commencement of the examination.
In a statement, GES described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that the young students had lives full of promise and potential that were cut short under unfortunate circumstances.
GES extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the school authorities, their classmates, and the entire community affected by the tragedy, assuring them of its thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.
It further indicated that it is engaging relevant authorities to ascertain the full details surrounding the accident and to consider measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
