AfDB approves $70m grant for youth empowerment in Northern Ghana – Ablakwa

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a US$70 million grant to support youth empowerment projects in the five regions of Northern Ghana.

The Minister, in a Facebook post on Thursday, November 6, 2025, revealed this after a meeting with Eyerusalem Fasika, the Country Manager of the African Development Bank.

According to the Minister, the grant is targeted at programmes that will equip young people with skills, training, and opportunities to improve their economic lives.

Mr. Ablakwa also said the African Development Bank has committed to supporting President Mahama’s major development initiatives such as the Big Push Project, the 24-Hour Economy Policy, the Feed Ghana Programme, and the 1-Million Coders Programme.

He further noted that the Bank remains committed to important road projects, including the Lagos–Abidjan Road Network and the Eastern Corridor Project, which passes through parts of the Volta Region, including his constituency.

The Minister also revealed that the AfDB has invested about US$600 million in active projects across Ghana, adding that the amount covers areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, youth development, and social support.
