In celebrating women around the world, I find myself drawn to those whose work goes beyond visibility, women whose impact is felt in the lives they shape, the standards they set, and the institutions they quietly strengthen.

At the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, one such woman is Madam Akushika Acquaye.
Her journey is one I deeply admire. From her early days as a continuity announcer to becoming a television newsreader, rising to lead TV news, and now serving as Director of Television, her path reflects decades of discipline, patience, and consistent hard work.

At a time when many are eager to rise quickly, her story reminds me that growth takes time. Moving through each stage has given her a clear understanding of the challenges at every level, something that shows in the way she leads today.

In the newsroom, and also in her present role, her presence is not occasional; it is constant. She is always at work. It is rare to find her absent unless she is on her annual leave. That consistency, day after day, has not only defined her, but has also set the bar for many of us who work with her.

She demands high standards, but she does not leave you to figure things out on your own. She guides, she supports, and she pushes you to do better.
There are many accounts of scripts edited between midnight and 4am. This is not something I have only heard; I have personally experienced it. I have had my scripts edited at those hours, and even now, that support continues. It speaks to a level of dedication that goes far beyond duty.

Her leadership is a balance of firmness and care. She can be strict when the work demands it, but she is also approachable, always willing to listen and to help. She believes that when you are mentally at ease, you can give your best, and she makes that a priority.

Beyond the newsroom, I have come to see her not just as a leader, but as a mentor and, for many, a mother figure. Her impact goes beyond professional guidance. It is in the quiet acts of kindness, the support she offers, and the genuine interest she takes in the well-being of others.
Her story is one of service, showing up every day and going the extra mile, consistently.
As we continue to celebrate women, her journey reminds me that true leadership is not rushed. It is built over time, shaped by experience, and sustained through commitment.

With admiration and a deep sense of pride, I celebrate a living legend, Madam Akushika Acquaye, a pillar of Ghana’s broadcasting industry whose work continues to inspire and whose impact will be felt for years to come.
