Angola considers Volta Region potential investment destination

The Angolan Embassy in Ghana has indicated the readiness of its investors to venture into businesses in the Volta Region as part of partnerships in the country to benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

The Angolan Ambassador to Ghana, Joao Baptista Domingos Quiosa who disclosed this noted that agriculture, fisheries, transportation and education are some potential areas to be considered for investments.

He said that the Volta Region is endowed with natural resources and several business opportunities that must be harnessed to their full potential.

Ambassador Domingos Quiosa was speaking in Ho at a meeting between a delegation from the Angolan Embassy and Members of the Volta, Oti and Eastern Regional Chapter of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).

The meeting sought to create the platform for partnerships in possible areas for investments between Angolan investors and the business community in the three regions.

Ambassador Domingos Quiosa encouraged industries to focus more on manufacturing products for domestic use and for other consumers on the African Continent.

He also urged Ghanaians to patronize made in Ghana products and goods from other parts of Africa to promote trade on the Continent.

“We have to start looking at what we have available. Kente is produced here, it’s a material. We don’t have to buy material from China or Turkey, let’s start buying our produce that’s the way forward. In Ghana, we are very much interested in education, in transportation, we have been exporting fishery and agriculture. It is the highest employing unit in corners, agriculture so I think we should start from there’’, he noted.

 

Chairman of the Volta, Oti and Eastern Regional Chapter of AGI, Dela Gadzanku expressed the hope that the business meeting would yield positive results in terms of establishing business partnerships between the Accra and Luanda.

“Many things and good things are happening in the Volta Region, and we believe it is our time to shine. The African Continental privilege era has brought in a great opportunity for Africa to trade amongst ourselves. Trading amongst ourselves is the best way to go. We hope that your visit will be fruitful and your tour to some of the industrial establishments and your interaction with key stakeholders in the region will bear fruit’’, the Angolan Ambassador stated, as he and his delegation toured some sites in the Volta Region.
