Legal practitioner and historian, Yaw Anokye Frimpong, Esq., has strongly endorsed Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the most suitable candidate for the position of Chief Justice, describing him as a firm, principled, and disciplined judge who embodies the true spirit of the judiciary.
During an interview on GTV’s breakfast show, he said, “At the moment, Baffoe-Bonnie is the best person for the job,” Yaw Anokye Frimpong stated, adding that “he truly represents the face of the judiciary anywhere in the world”.
Recounting moments from Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s career, Mr. Frimpong cited several cases that, in his view, highlight the nominee’s firmness and integrity.
He referenced a case in which Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, then a High Court judge, revoked a bail granted to a paramount chief who had accidentally killed an innocent person. “That decision showed how firm he was. He stood by the law and demonstrated that no one is above it,” Mr. Frimpong explained.
The historian also recalled an incident during a high-profile trial where a former president stood up in court to support his wife, who was facing charges. Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, he said, maintained strict courtroom procedure by instructing the former president to sit down. “That moment showed the entire nation that in court, everyone is equal before the law,” he remarked.
Touching on the 2012 Presidential Election Petition, popularly known as the pink sheet case, Mr. Frimpong praised Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s impartiality and professionalism. “Many expected him to lean towards one political side because of his background, but he disappointed them. That alone tells you the kind of person he is—one who values integrity and justice above politics,” he said.
Concluding the interview, Lawyer Anokye Frimpong reaffirmed his support: “For these reasons and more, I believe that at this moment, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is the best person for the job.”
