The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Gilbert Kenneth Adjei, has announced that the Blekusu Coastal Protection Project, aimed at protecting lives and property, is 25 percent complete.

According to the minister, the project, although not fully completed, has brought relief and calm to communities that have suffered repeated tidal-wave destruction.

The Works and Housing Minister, speaking at the Government Accountability Series organised by the Government Communications wing on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, said the progress fulfills a commitment made by President John Dramani Mahama during his visit to affected coastal communities last year.

President John Dramani Mahama, in March 2025, toured Solakokpe, Agavedzi, and Amutinu in the Ketu South Municipality after tidal waves displaced thousands of residents and destroyed homes and livelihoods.

According to Mr. Adjei, the President assured residents that the government would take decisive action to address the devastation, a promise that is now being honored.

“Currently, the project is 25 percent complete, and already, calm has been restored along the coastline,” the Minister reiterated.

Mr. Adjei also announced that the Lower Volta Basin Sea Defence Corridor has been incorporated into Phase Two of the World Bank-supported West Africa Coastal Areas (WACA) Resilience Investment Project.

He explained that technical assessments and environmental impact studies for the Lower Volta project are currently ongoing.

In addition, feasibility studies have commenced for future coastal protection projects at Shama–Apor, Ningo–Prampram Phase Two, and Ada West, as part of the government’s broader strategy to protect vulnerable coastal communities.
