The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has assured traders at the Bolgatanga Main Market of strengthened security arrangements following two recent armed robbery incidents that raised concerns among the trading community.

The assurance was given during a visit to the market by the Regional Minister, accompanied by the Upper East Regional Police Commander and the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Ayoo Atanga. The visit formed part of efforts to calm tensions, assess the security situation firsthand, and restore confidence among traders to go about their daily business without fear.

Addressing the traders, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga emphasised that the government considers the safety of traders and their goods a top priority. He disclosed that security agencies have been directed to intensify police presence in and around the market, particularly during peak trading hours. He further announced plans to establish a market watchdog committee, which will be trained by the Ghana Police Service to support ongoing security operations and assist in identifying suspicious activities.

In addition, the minister revealed that the police will regularly deploy surveillance drones to monitor activities within the market. He explained that the use of modern technology forms part of proactive measures to prevent crime rather than react to it.

Traders at the market welcomed the intervention and expressed optimism that the enhanced security measures would help curb criminal activities, restore confidence, and promote peaceful trading within the Bolgatanga Main Market.

Security agencies have assured the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order as investigations into the reported robbery incidents continue.
