The Eastern Regional Office of the Forestry Commission has expressed worry over the influx of nomadic herdsmen and their cattle at a time when it is having a debilitating effect on the Green Ghana Project.

According to the Regional Director of the Forestry Commission, Noble Eshun, the activities of the herdsmen are becoming predominant in the Kwahu and Begoro areas of the region, which are destroying the food crops of farmers and the tree seedlings planted during the Green Ghana Project.

In an interview with GBC Sunrise FM in Koforidua, Mr. Eshun noted that farmers who are assisting the Commission in the afforestation program are having their farms destroyed by cattle.

Mr Eshun announced, “the Forestry Commission is collaborating with the Ghana Police to combat activities of the nomadic herdsmen in the region.”

The Regional Director of the Forestry Commission added that they are also in collaboration with the Police to process those arrested for Court.

He called on Ghanaians to support its mandate in combating illegal activities of nomadic herdsmen in the region and the country as a whole.
