The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has promised to clear the place for a fresh start following a fire behind the VVIP Station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
The blaze, which broke out on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, has damaged several properties, including shops. No casualties have been reported so far.
Speaking at the scene, Mayor Allotey praised the Ghana National Fire Service for keeping the fire under control and said authorities would assess the cause of the blaze. He confirmed that over fifty structures had been destroyed.
Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey said authorities would clear the site and work towards rebuilding after the fire.
Firefighters remain on site, working to fully contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
