The executive board of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced its members will embark on a nationwide strike on November 7, 2024, due to the government’s delay in finalising a new salary structure both parties agreed on.
The announcement was contained in a statement, issued on Monday, November 4, 2024, and signed by CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Isaac Bampoe Addo.
According to the statement, the government’s inability to finalise the new salary structure makes the January 1, 2025, implementation date unrealistic.
Mr. Bampoe Addo warned that CLOGSAG will no longer engage with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission’s (FWSC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Benjamin Arthur, citing bad faith.
“As a result of the long delay in the completion of a New Salary Structure and other Conditions of Service for the Staff of Civil Service and Local Government Service, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has no option than to ask our members to stay at home on Thursday, November 7th.” portion of the statement read.
CLOGSAG had previously announced its intention to proceed on strike in a statement dated October 22, anticipating that the FWSC would miss the October 31 deadline to finalise the new salary structure.
This decision was likely motivated by the government’s failure to implement the proposed salary structure, despite a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) being reached one and a half years prior.
