The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced that Work on the reconstruction of the Dodowa–Afienya–Dawhenya road and selected town roads is progressing steadily, with the project now 35% complete and ahead of schedule.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways says the project, which began on December 5, 2025, is expected to be completed by December 4, 2027.
The project includes the construction of a 24.8-kilometre single carriageway asphalt road with shoulders and walkways, as well as a 4-kilometre dual carriageway at key junctions in Dodowa, Afienya and Dawhenya. It also features a 40-metre span, four-lane concrete bridge over the River Detsedor at Afienya, along with additional bridges, culverts and drainage systems.

Other components include 28.7 kilometres of concrete U-drains, eight major box culverts, 28 pipe culverts, a 550-metre storm drain, and an outfall concrete-lined channel.
When completed, the road is expected to improve connectivity between Dodowa, Afienya and Dawhenya, while boosting the movement of goods between Accra and nearby districts. Completing this road will not only drastically reduce travel time from Dawhenya through Afienya to Dodowa and beyond, it will help take trafiic off the choked Dawhenya road, through Community 25 towards the Accra/Tema Motorway.
