The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced the successful completion of the Phase Two upgrade of the Lashibi Primary Substation, delivering the project ahead of schedule and restoring power supply earlier than anticipated.
In a press release issued on April 16, 2026, ECG said the upgrade forms part of the Government’s ongoing Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme aimed at strengthening power distribution across the country.
Although the project was initially scheduled for completion on April 17, ECG engineers worked around the clock to complete installation and testing ahead of time, ensuring that electricity supply to affected communities was restored sooner than expected.
The company noted that the upgrade will significantly enhance supply reliability, reduce system overloads, and minimize frequent power outages in Lashibi and surrounding areas.
ECG further revealed that plans are underway to roll out additional distribution transformer replacement projects nationwide as part of broader efforts to modernize the national power network.
“The location and schedule for the next phase of transformer upgrades are currently being finalized, and a formal announcement will be made through ECG’s official communication channels in the coming days,” the statement said.
ECG assured the public that future projects will be carried out with minimal disruption. It added that where temporary outages are required, adequate notice will be given to allow residents and businesses to plan accordingly.
The company also reiterated its commitment to deploying modern technology and strengthening maintenance practices to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
ECG expressed appreciation to residents of Lashibi and nearby communities for their patience and cooperation during the brief planned outages, noting that their support contributed to the safe and timely completion of the project.
It reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable electricity services to support Ghana’s development and encouraged customers to report faults promptly and comply with safety guidelines.
