Residents and businesses in sections of the Greater Accra, Tema, and Western Regions should expect temporary power cuts today, Sunday, 13 July 2025, as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) carries out essential maintenance work on its power distribution systems.
According to a notice issued by ECG on Friday, 11 July, the scheduled outages are part of routine infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving supply reliability and service efficiency across the country. ECG says the exercise is necessary to address recurring system faults and to strengthen the power distribution network.
The planned works involve activities such as equipment replacement, transformer upgrades, clearing vegetation around transmission lines, and expanding substation capacity to prevent future disruptions and voltage inconsistencies.
Ghana’s power demand continues to rise steadily, between 10% and 15% each year, putting pressure on aging infrastructure and requiring constant maintenance and expansion efforts.
