The ECOWAS Commission has commenced a four-day stakeholders’ workshop to support Nigeria in developing a new National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP).

Taking place from 6–9 October 2025, the workshop brings together 30 key national stakeholders, including representatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Federal Ministry of Health, and civil society organisations (CSOs).

The workshop aims to guide the drafting of a comprehensive, evidence-based and inclusive national framework for drug control in line with regional priorities and international conventions.

Speaking on behalf of the ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, Prof. Fatou Sow Sarr, the Principal Programme Officer and Head of the ECOWAS Drug Prevention and Control Division, Dr. Daniel Amankwaah, described the initiative as a strategic step in strengthening Nigeria’s response to drug-related challenges.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to providing leadership, coordination and technical guidance in developing and implementing the new master plan.
